On October 1, 2024, experts from the Ukrainian Marketing Association (UMA), during an extended session of the Board of Directors of the Confederation of Builders of Ukraine, presented a national study “The current state of professional and practical training of students of professional technical education in construction professions: the view of the employer, the master of industrial training and the student”.
The study was conducted as part of the EdUP project by the Swiss Foundation for Technical Cooperation and Development, Swisscontact, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the NGO “League of Masters.” A total of 288 vocational education institutions from 24 regions of Ukraine and Kyiv participated, including 2,392 students, 1,127 educational staff members, and representatives from 484 construction enterprises.
The researchers noted that only one in four construction companies collaborates with educational institutions, offering opportunities for practical training at enterprises and serving as training bases for technical education students. Experts emphasized that companies that cooperate with professional education institutions and actively participate in the preparation of construction industry personnel are over 70% satisfied with the professional and practical training of students. According to vocational instructors and employers, the most significant factor in the successful training of specialists is the completion of practical training at an enterprise.
At the same time, students highlighted the importance of the personal qualities of vocational instructors and mentors at companies in mastering construction professions effectively.
Representatives of the Board of Directors of the Confederation of Builders of Ukraine and professional education institutions discussed the challenges of organizing professional and practical training for future builders and potential pathways for further cooperation between vocational institutions and businesses.
