On May 31, 2024, a training seminar on topical issues in the field of advertising legislation and prevention of discrimination in advertising was held on the basis of the Vinnytsia Institute of Trade and Economics of SUTE, organized by the Main Department of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection in Vinnytsia region, Vinnytsia Institute of Trade and Economics of SUTE (VTEI SUTE), NGO “Ukrainian Marketing Association” and the Industrial Gender Committee for Advertising (HHKR).
In order to receive methodological recommendations and exchange experience, the event was attended by specialists from the Main Departments of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection of Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy, Khmelnytskyi regions and the city of Kyiv, as well as representatives of the Department of Social and Youth Policy of the Vinnytsia Regional Military Administration.
Andrii Yakymchuk, Head of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection in Vinnytsia region, opened the seminar with a welcoming speech and noted that such consolidation of efforts is extremely important, because it not only helps to prevent discrimination in advertising, but also has a positive impact on society as a whole. Advertising creates social contexts, shapes our worldview and values, which is why it is necessary to monitor all changes in advertising legislation in order to have effective tools to ensure the environmental friendliness of the information space.
Doctor of Economics, Professor of the Department of Marketing and Advertising of VTEI SUTE Alyona Tanasiychuk reminded the audience of changes in advertising legislation that are relevant in the context of the implementation of European legislation in the national legislation of Ukraine.
For his part, Yuriy Sakhno, Chief Specialist of the Department of Control over Advertising and Compliance with Anti-Tobacco Legislation of the Department of Consumer Protection and Control of Regulated Prices, spoke about the peculiarities of control over advertising in connection with amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Advertising” and the entry into force of the Law of Ukraine “On Administrative Procedure”.
Finally, Olena Buchynska, Head of the Kyiv Regional Office of the IGKR, presented to the participants the results of research on the effectiveness of discriminatory advertising on the basis of gender.
It is worth noting that the cooperation of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, the Ukrainian Marketing Association and the IGKR contributes to a more professional approach to the creation of advertising materials by advertisers of the region, including graduates of VTEI SUTE, the development of public consciousness about the importance of avoiding stereotypes and negative prejudices.
